5 Events to Enjoy During Your Autumn Stay at the Pennine Manor

Autumn is an ideal time to discover what West Yorkshire has to offer, especially as it hosts a number of activities sure to excite the whole family. With something for everyone, we wanted to share our pick of five local events that will make your break with us even more memorable.

Spooky Shibden (28th October)

Those visiting the area this October should make their way to Shibden Hall for a fright night guided tour of this atmospheric 15th-century building.

Whilst this spooky event is not suitable for younger children, we know older visitors will love exploring the haunted attraction. Expect a tour of the hall’s interior and grounds whilst hearing ghost stories and legends.

Tim Peake (28th September)

Witness the stories of the pioneering British astronaut Tim Peake at The Victoria Theatre in Halifax. As part of his tour of the UK, you will spend the evening hearing about his out-of-this-world journey to the International Space Station. He was the first British person to conduct a spacewalk whilst in orbit.

Guiding the audience on a momentous ‘adventure’, you can expect photographs, “never-before-seen incredible footage” and the insider view of an astronaut. This unique event offers insights into his training, launch, and 2015 spacewalk.

Ghoul School (22nd-30th October)

This family-friendly programme at the Eureka National Children’s Museum is perfect for those visiting with little ones. Make the most of this half-term week by crafting, “science busking” and making potions. There are even Ghoul School discos at this popular attraction to bop along to.

With fun characters to meet and Halloween activities to dive into, this event offers young families an alternative to the above tour of Shibden Hall. Reserve your family’s tickets – it looks set to be popular.

Robert Indiana Outdoor Sculptures (until 16th April 2023)

This celebrated American sculptor has created many iconic artworks over six decades, including the celebrated LOVE (Red Blue Green) 1966 sculpture. Now, you can view his world-famous art from 360 degrees within the beauty of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in West Bretton.

A first within Europe, this significant exhibition exhibits several of Indiana’s prints and paintings as well as his sculptures. Please note that pre-booking is necessary for entry.

Explore these and many more artists’ works by pre-booking your tickets on the YSP website.

Brighouse Arts Festival (7-15th October)

Travel to nearby Brighouse to take in the sights and sounds of this autumn event.

With performers including Kiki Dee, Belinda O’Hooley and Lesley Garrett, we recommend booking your tickets before arrival. There will also be a screening of the British film Lawrence After Arabia, telling a mysterious deathly tale.
